This presents you the requirements, privileges and conditions to obtain a commercial pilot license aeroplane.

Prerequisite
(Appendix 1 to JAR-FCL 1.160 and 1.165(a)(4))


Minimum age (JAR-FCL 1.140)

Medical Fitness
(JAR-FCL 1.145)

An applicant for a CPL(A) shall hold a valid Class 1 medical certificate. In order to exercise the privileges of the CPL(A) a valid Class 1 medical certificate shall be held.

Privileges and conditions
(JAR-FCL 1.150)

1. Privileges. (JAR-FCL 1.150 (a))

    - Exercise all the privileges of the holder of a PPL(A);
    - Act as pilot-in-command or co-pilot of any aeroplane engaged in operations other than
      commercial air transportation;
    - Act as pilot-in-command in commercial air transportation of any single-pilot aeroplane;
    - Act as co-pilot in commercial air transportation.

   
2. Conditions. (JAR-FCL 1.150 (b))

An applicant for a CPL(A) who has complied with the conditions specified in 
    -
JAR-FCL 1.140 (minimum age), 
    -
JAR-FCL 1.145 (medical fitness) and 
    -
JAR-FCL 1.155 ,
    -
JAR-FCL 1.160
    -
JAR-FCL 1.165
    -
JAR-FCL 1.170 
shall have fulfilled the requirements for the issue of at least a CPL(A) containing the class/type rating for the aeroplane used on the skill test and, if an instrument rating course and test are included, the instrument rating.

Experience and Crediting (JAR-FCL 1.155)

1. Integrated courses (JAR-FCL 1.155 (a))

2. Modular course. (JAR-FCL 1.155 (b))
3. Flight time. (JAR-FCL 1.155(c))

The applicant shall have completed in aeroplanes during  the modular course 200 hours of flight time including at least:

    - 100 hours as pilot-in-command;
    - 20 hours of cross-country flight time as pilot-in-command, including a cross-country flight
       totaling at least 540 km (300 NM) in the course of which full-stop landings at two aerodromes
       different from the aerodromes of departure shall be made;
    - 10 hours of instrument instruction time, of which not more than 5 hours is to be instrument
       ground time; and
    - 5 hours of night flight time, as set out in JAR-FCL 1.165(b).

2. Examination.

An applicant for a CPL(A) shall have demonstrated a level of knowledge appropriate to the privileges granted to the holder of a CPL(A) and shall meet the requirements set out in JAR-FCL 1 (Aeroplane) Subpart J covering the following subjects:

    - Air Law;
    - Aircraft General Knowledge;
    - Flight Performance and Planning;
    - Human Performance and Limitations;
    - Meteorology;
    - Navigation;
    - Operational Procedures;
    - Principles of flight;
    - Communications.


Training Course (JAR-FCL 1.165)

    1.Course.(JAR-FCL 1.165(a))

An applicant for a CPL(A) shall have completed an approved course of modular flying training on aeroplanes having a certificate of airworthiness issued or accepted by a JAA Member State at an approved flying training organisation. The course should be combined with a theoretical knowledge training course. 

 a. Aim of the course

The aim of the CPL(A) modular course is to train PPL(A) holders to the level of proficiency necessary for the issue of a CPL(A).

b. Supervision

The successful completion of the theoretical knowledge examination (JAR-FCL 1.160 (b)) and of the skill test (JAR-FCL 1.170) fulfill the knowledge and skill requirements for the issue of a CPL(A) including a class or type rating for the aeroplane used in the test.

    2. Flying training (Appendix 1 to JAR-FCL 1.160 and 1.165(a)(4))

Applicants without an instrument rating shall be given 
    - at least 25 hours dual flight instruction, including
    - 10 hours of instrument instruction of which 
    - up to 5 hours may be instrument ground time in a FNPT I or II or a flight simulator.

Applicants with a valid instrument rating shall be given at least 15 hours dual visual flight instruction.

Applicants without a night flying qualification shall be given the 5 hours night flight instruction (see
JAR-FCL 1.125(c)).

At least five hours of the flight instruction shall be carried out in an aeroplane certificated for the carriage of at least four persons and have a variable pitch propeller and retractable landing gear.

    3. Night training. (JAR-FCL 1.165 (b))

Skill
(JAR-FCL 1.170)

An applicant for a CPL(A) shall have demonstrated the ability to perform, as pilot-in-command of an aeroplane, the relevant procedures and maneuvers described in Appendices 1 and 2 to
JAR-FCL 1.170 with a degree of competency appropriate to the privileges granted to the holder of a CPL(A). 

The applicant shall demonstrate the ability to:
    - operate the aeroplane within its limitations;
    - complete all maneuvers with smoothness and accuracy;
    - exercise good judgment and airmanship;
    - apply aeronautical knowledge; and
    - maintain control of the aeroplane at all times in such a manner that the successful outcome 
      of a procedure or maneuver is never seriously in doubt.

The following limits are for general guidance. The Flight Examiner shall make allowance for turbulent conditions and the handling qualities and performance of the aeroplane used.

 Height
    normal flight                       	    +/- 100 feet
    with simulated engine failure       +/- 150 feet

 Tracking on radio aids                   +/- 5°

 Heading
    normal flight                              +/- 10°
    with simulated engine failure       +/- 15°

Speed
    take-off and approach                +/- 5 knots
    all other flight regimes                +/- 10 knots
